A new post has arisen for a Registered Clinical Scientist in the Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory in Leicester. The lab is based in the Leicestershire Genetics Centre at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. This is a busy ISO 15189 accredited department which is co-located with the Clinical Genetics Service with whom there are close links. It provides a constitutional and acquired diagnostic service and is a key part of the Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Links (HMDL) Service for Leicestershire, Northampton and Rutland. The laboratory is within the pathology clinical business unit at UHL and there is a strong focus on pathology integration.
The successful applicant will have knowledge and practical experience of karyotyping, FISH and microarray analysis. Practical experience of molecular pathology testing and NGS analysis would be advantageous. There will be the opportunity to work across all sections of the laboratory and professional development will be supported and encouraged.
Applicants must have a good honours degree in genetics or a biological science and hold the ACC Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Cytogenetics, or have completed or be near to completing the NHS Scientist Training Programme in Genetics/Genomics or other recognised professional qualification. They should be registered or eligible for registration with the HCPC as a clinical scientist in cytogenetics/genetics.
Candidates will be asked to prepare a 10min presentation on a recent case study, project or clinical audit that they have been involved in.
